Sardine Mountain is a short and steep trail of only about a third of a mile, but gaining about 500 feet. This is essentially a social trail that heads straight up the ridge that will disappear into the shrub in places. There are skittery rocks near the top requiring some focus to find a suitable path upwards. From the Willamette Valley, take Highway 22 east until just before the Breitenbush River bridge takes you into Detroit. You'll turn left here onto French Creek Road and go about 4.1 miles until the pavement ends and keep left onto Road 2223. You'll go along this nice gravel road for 4.5 miles (passing the Dome Rock trailhead at 3.7 miles) to the trailhead located near 44.752° -122.2378° - the trail should be marked by flagging tape - it may not be obvious. This trail is actually shown on SOTA Atlas - with a parking mark near the trailhead for trail "T1."   The summit is quite exposed with no trees - there are some trees in the AZ not far below the peak that could be used for an antenna pole.
You might consider also activating nearby Dome Rock W7O/WV-031 while in the area as it is a very pleasant hike -- and also perhaps Peak 4740 W7O/WV-105 - for a challenging bushwack. 2m FM may work from these summits especially when folks are looking out for you (alert and spot).
