Peak 4940 deserves a better name - but for the time being it's a very easy to reach SOTA summit - if you are already in Wallowa County in the very northeast corner of Oregon.
From Enterprise, head north on Highway 3 towards Walla Walla and Lewiston. As the road makes a turn to the left past milepost 21, look for a right turn onto a forest road. Follow this about one mile to a large turnaround, or stop sooner along the ridge in the AZ. The road is probably suitable for a carefully driven passenger car, but there were several deep puddles when we were there. The views to the east and especially of the Wallowas to the south are excellent, and there are plenty of places to set up along the long ridge of the summit, with many good antenna trees. We easily worked folks back in Enterprise on 2m FM with an HT and a whipand also enjoyed a good number of S2S across the country on HF.
