I activated Holland Point, W7O/WV-017, on 13 May 2016. This is typically an easy hike to the top of the 1542 m (5057') Cascade foothill south of Cottage Grove, OR.  The directions are given below.  However, there can be obstacles early in the season before crews have cleared downed trees from the roads.  That was the problem I ran into.  There were downed trees not only on the gravel approach road, but on the paved through route that gets there.  There were patches of snow as well.  Instead of the half mile hike up to the top, I had to add close to two miles of tree hopping to get to the trailhead.  If you are considering this summit, it would pay to wait a bit later in the season, unless you want the extra hike or plan to take a chainsaw along.

From Cottage Grove, take Row River Road to the covered bridge at the south end of Dorena Lake.  Set the mileage at the bridge and follow the road that has several names before becoming Rt 22.  At the intersection of 22 and 2212 (19.9 miles from the covered bridge), take the lower left and follow the mostly paved road for 9.5 miles to a hard left onto unpaved Rt 925.  This is a rutted, gravel and grassy road that winds around for 0.9 miles to a parking lot on the right.

Park here and look carefully for a trail through the trees.  Follow this trail skirting the hill side past a large downed tree, veering uphill to the right.  The trail is not well developed or always easy to see, but it sure beats an uphill bushwhack through the shrubs.  It is a short few hundred yards up to the broad hill top of the summit.  There are trees and shrubs for holding antennas up.
