It makes for a very long day (about 17 miles total), but this Wildcat Mountain (WV-046) can also be reached from Huckleberry Mountain via the Plaza Ridge Trail #783 and the Douglas Trail #781. It's also quite beautiful - a stunning ridge hike in the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness. Be sure and check out this other access to Wildcat Mountain.
From the actual summit of Huckleberry Mountain (W7O/WV-050 - you may need a GPS to verify you are on the summit) continue on the Boulder Ridge Trail south 1.8 miles to the junction with the Plaza Trail and the Douglas Trail #781. This section of the Plaza Trail has some substantial ups and downs as it goes along the ridge. You will make a sharp right turn at the juction to head to the west. The Douglas Trail is much more pleasant for grade and is in better shape that the section of the Plaza Trail you just left. Continue 1.2 miles to the Wildcat Mountain Trail #781F for the last 0.1 mile to the summit, the site of a former fire lookout. There are no trail signs here, but it was obvious and also marked by blue tape. There is a small clearing at the top and room for antennas of all sorts.
